Healthcare sector and Medical Tourism to be a key growth engines!

The healthcare sector is set to be transformed from a social service and consumer of wealth to a private sector-driven engine for economic growth under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). Three healthcare sub-sectors have been identified to be key drivers of this growth: pharmaceutical, health services - including healthcare travel, specialist care centres and care of seniors - and medical technology products.

TMC Pioneers Electronic Storage Card for Personal Health Records

Pasig City, Philippines , 26 October 2010: Applying information technology to its brand of personalized and customized health care, The Medical City (TMC) launches the e-Partner Card, the Philippines’ first individual electronic storage card for patients’ personal health records. Similar to a flash drive, the card can be plugged into any computer’s USB port for the sharing and uploading of in-patient and out-patient medical histories, MRI images, CT Scans, Echocardiograms, digital X-rays, prescriptions, and other documents pertinent to a patient’s health, all without Internet connectivity. The e-Partner Card is TMC’s exclusive version of the Individual Personal Health Electronic Record (iPHER™) device introduced by global medical service provider World of Wellness (WOW), headquartered in Malaysia.

Upon every visit to TMC, patients with e-Partner Cards need only submit their cards to the service unit’s staff to have their latest records uploaded. The card also keeps track of rewards points earned by patients each time they utilize the services of TMC’s main hospital or any one of its satellite clinics. The card is also especially useful for frequent travelers, as it can be used anywhere in the world, able to translate records into a variety of languages, and offer secure data back-up.

“With the e-Partner Card, every TMC patient can now be an even more engaged partner in the attainment of his health goals,” says Margaret A. Bengzon, Group Head of TMC’s Strategic Services Group. “This ability to actively manage his health information enables the patient to communicate and collaborate more actively with his physician, towards more efficient, effective and customized care.”
